- [Narrator] Strategy and tactics are words often used to describe the play by play action of a game or the study of military battles through a historical lens. But what exactly do we mean when we talk of strategy and tactics from a game design perspective? In this video, we'll explore those topics. Let's define these two terms that on the surface appear very much the same. Strategy. Strategy is a high-level plan to reach a long-term goal. You often hear people talk in terms of their master plan or grand strategy when playing games, particularly PVP games. Tactics, on the other hand, are moment to moment decisions we make to reach short-term goals. In order to understand the difference between strategy and tactics on a game level, let's take a look at a collectible card game like Hearthstone.
