Join Justin Seeley for an in-depth discussion in this video Using the Clone tool, part of GIMP Essential Training (2012).
Restoring photographs that have been damaged, or removing unwanted photographs from images…is sometimes a very tedious task, but luckily for us, in the digital age, we have the ability…to remove things and add things to photos by using tools like a Clone Tool that really…make it a lot easier than it used to be.…And so in GIMP, in order to use something called the Clone Tool, basically what you are going…to do is select it from your Tools panel over here on the left-hand side.…It's this little stamp looking icon right here.…and basically what this allows you to do is copy different areas of an image to apply…it to another area of the image.…
So you can see, I've got open this very old photograph here, and it's actually got some…areas that are missing.…The corner down here is missing, the edge down here's been cut off, there is a little…bit missing from the top,…and so what I want to do is be able to fill in these areas with content that actually…looks like the rest of the photo.…I don't want to have to crop out different areas of the photo simply because I'm missing…

Q: This course was updated on 09/04/2014. What changed?
A: We added a movie that explains why you can't achieve some of the effects shown in these tutorials in the Windows version of GIMP. This is due to the fact some plugins have been removed since this course was recorded. Watch the "IMPORTANT: Before we get started" to learn more about how these changes will impact you.
Q: I don't have access to some of the tools and can't create some of effects shown in this course. What's wrong?
A: Unfortunately, some plugins have been removed from the Windows version of GIMP since this course was recorded. Watch the "IMPORTANT: Before we get started" to learn more about how these changes will impact you.
