Quick masks
- Making accurate selections in gimp is often a multi-step process where you begin by making a rough selection and then refine it. So one feature that you should definitely become familiar with is the quick mask feature. It allows you to display a selection as a mask over the image and you can then use painting techniques to edit that mask and then convert it back to a normal selection. So let's see how that works. Here in my image let's say I wanted to isolate this blue surfboard on the left so I could make some adjustments to its color without effecting anything else in the image. For that I need to make a good selection to isolate the surfboard from the rest of the image. So I'll start with the scissors select tool to roughly select the surfboard. And in the tool options I'll make sure that anti-aliasing is turned on and I'll also turn on feather edges with a radius of five pixels.
