Gradient tool
- [Instructor] Let's check out how to use the gradient tool in Gimp, and how to make and edit custom gradients. The gradient tool allows you to fill areas with transitions, or gradients of color. And we have options for blending mode and opacity. A popup menu where you can pick a gradient, either the default, different versions that use the foreground and background color, or you can pick one of the many other gradients that come with Gimp. There's a button to reverse the gradient and a menu for picking the shape of the gradient with choices like linear, radial and even spiral. I want to apply a blue-to-white gradient so I'm going to change my foreground color from black to blue. And then to apply this gradient, simply target a layer or a selection. I'm going to target the background layer. And then click and drag in your image. Where you first click will be one end of the gradient, and where you release will be the other side.
