Mike Rankin shows how to set layer options in GIMP, including layer names and layer dimensions. Also demonstrated are how to reuse layer options, how to duplicate a layer, and how to create a new layer that is a flattened composite of all the currently visible layers.
- [Instructor] So far, we've seen…some of the basic ideas for working with layers in GIMP.…And one of the first things you're going to need to do…is to add new layers to your documents.…So let's see how to do that.…There are several ways in which…you can create a new layer in GIMP.…First, I can use the layer menu and choose layer,…new layer, and I can also use the keyboard shortcut here,…control shift n, or command shift n on a Mac.…Either way, I get a dialog box…where I can set layer options.…First, I'll give it a name.…I'll just call it my new layer.…
And even if I don't name the layer here,…I can do it at any time in the layer's dialog…by double-clicking on the name there.…I can apply a color tag to help…organize layers in a complex document.…I'll choose the green color tag.…And you can apply a blend mode…and related options here.…There are switches for locking and linking…your new layer on the right,…and you can set the dimensions for the width…and height of the layer, and there's a popup…where you can choose the units.…
