- [Instructor] Let's take a look at how to work with text in GIMP documents. To add or edit text in GIMP, you use the text tool. And when you're using any other tool, you can just type the letter "t" to switch to the text tool. To add text, click on the canvas where you want the text to go, or you can set up the tool options to change the default appearance of text first. You can see right now that it's set to use a generic, sans-serif font. The size'll be 62 pixels, and the color will be black. I'll make the size a bit bigger, 150 pixels, and then click in the image, and start typing "Happy Birthday." And as soon as I started typing, a new text layer was added to the document, and it's named for the text that I typed, and you'll notice that the text is contained here in a text box. And by default this box will expand horizontally to fit the text as you type. If you look in the tool options, you can see that the text box is set to be dynamic.
