Add drop shadows

- [Instructor] In this movie we'll see how to add drop shadows to objects in GIMP. In our exercise file, we have two layers, and on the top layer, there's a silhouette of a pencil. And in order to get the drop shadow to appear, you need the transparent area around the object on this layer, and beneath that, there's just a layer filled with white. And what I'd like to do is give our pencil a nice drop shadow, to make it pop a bit off this white background. First, I'll make sure I have the pencil layer targeted, and then I'll go to the filters menu and choose light and shadow, drop shadow. And in this dialogue box there are controls for setting the position, size, color, and darkness of the drop shadow. First there are the x y coordinates to set the position, which is relative to the top left of the object that you're applying the drop shadow to.
