What you need to know

- [Instructor] To get the most out of this intermediate level course, you'll need some prerequisite knowledge. First, you should have a basic understanding of 3D printing, what it is and how it works. My course, Learning 3D Printing, is a good place to start if this is a new subject for you. Second, to apply the knowledge you learn in this course, you'll need basic skills in a CAD program. I'll be using Autodesk's Fusion 360 to demonstrate the concepts of this course. The lessons are paced for users who are new to the software but have previous CAD experience. If you find the need for more help or want a broader understanding of the program, check out one of the Fusion 360 courses in the library. Finally, it's not essential to know how to operate a 3D printer. You might use a 3D printing service or utilize shared hardware, but if you plan to operate a 3D printer, that knowledge is outside the scope of this course. My course, Learning to use MakerBot 3D Printers, provides general operating instructions that apply to many makes and models, but your best bet is to read the training materials that come with your particular 3D printer.
