- [Instructor] This video is on the selection tools. I'm in the sculpt mode right now. I have select here. You have select, and window freeform and paint. Window selection is this. You can see that based on where I drag, there's different options for selection. Let's go down here. We drag from right to left. We get this yellow stripey box. Let's drag here and see what happens. Now everything that touched even a little bit this box gets selected.
Let's compare that to this. I'm going to drag here. Now if this were the other way, everything would get selected. Let's see what's selected now. Only this. The difference between the two, let's go like this, is that from right to left, if any little part is even touching this selection it will get selected. From left to right, you have to completely encompass the thing that you want in order to select it, so for this the only thing that would really get selected would be this point.
Let's completely encompass this one square and see that that got selected. That is one way of doing selections. You can also see that these are hot keys. The developers of Fusion think that you're going to be using this quite a bit. That was one. Freeform is number two, let's switch to that. Now you get this little circle. Now when I click and drag, I'm dragging a circle. You can see it's the same thing. Dragging a circle from left to right only selects the things that are completely in the selection, which were these lines in this square.
Selecting from right to left, even if something is touched a little bit, if I go up here a little bit, it all gets selected. Now here's one thing. If I do a selection like this, I'm looking from the right right now, and I select all of this, I think okay I'm going to edit this, but if I rotate around, nothing else got selected, only the ones that I saw. If we go down here to select and say selection filter select through, and we do the selection again, now it's all the way through the model.
That is something really critical to keep in mind, is the select and select through. Now you can also say I only want to select specific things. I only want to select T-spline edges, for example, or faces, or vertices, and then you can click these. If you click select all, it un-selects it all. If you say I only want to do T-spline edges, so now when you go like this, you're only selecting edges, and you're doing select through because select through is still turned on.
Or you can say select all and it goes back. You can kind of filter what you want to do there, but that select through is very, very critical for when you're doing the selection. It's very nice to switch between these. Paint is also very nice. Paint is I am just holding my mouse button down, and painting through those. Remember select through is on. Sometimes it's really hard to drag a box around what you want, or you don't want to do a freeform thing, you can just drag your mouse.
We have paint, if we drag from the left to the right, it also does the same thing. This is similar from the right to the left as the left to the right with the painting. The other two, window and freeform have different things that go from right to left and left to right. The painting is the same from both ways. Again you can hold down shift to add in to selections. If you hold down the control key, you'll be removing from selections.
Those are the selection tools.
