- [Instructor] The first thing we're going to do is start off in the model environment. And go to Create Form and go down to Create Plane. We do this because generally you start off with something that is more sculptural and then will create features on top of that using service modeling. So I'm going to create a plane on the top plane here and click on the origin, and drag it out. Now, obviously, if this were an actual hood of a car, I would want to make this quite large in terms of the number of millimeters, but I'm just going to make something that's kind of about the size and about the shape that I want, not necessarily the actual absolute size, but something about 300 by 500 looks okay.
I'm going to make it a little bit detailed, like this, drag these, and you can see I have the mirror symmetry on on length, and I have the set to an even number here, which puts a nice line down the center, and a line down the center for ease of modeling. Now for something like this, it's actually maybe good to go to an odd number, because we might want to have the symmetry have a little platform in the top.
So that it would be symmetric on both sides like this. It's really up to you, I'm going to keep this as an even number here to have a nice line down the center. And click okay. Now the actual hoods are not completely flat like this, so I'm going to go to the top view like this. And drag maybe on the central squares. Remember, you drag from right to left.
If you want to select everything inside of the box. And I'm going to right-click and say Edit Form. Rotate up a little bit. I'm going to move this up. A bit like this. That looks pretty good. Rotate up to the top again, and select just the central ones. And move those up a little bit. Something like that looks pretty good. And I'm going to click on okay and finish form.
So I have kind of something that is vaguely hood-ish. If you wanted to refine this more, you can obviously always go in and do things like scale down the front to make it a little bit more hood-like, or scale the back up as well. You can do whatever you want. But the main thing is to have a little bit of curve inside of the hood when you go to finish form. Now, the last thing we're going to do is we don't want to have to make changes on both sides of this object.
We want to just have changes on one side, and then those will automatically get mirrored later. So what we're going to do now is to go into the patch environment. And you see, we have some different options inside of here. And what we're going to do is go to Modify to Split Body. So it asks the body we want to split. Now obviously it's the only body we have here. In the splitting tool, we need to turn the origin on, with the little light bulb right here, and we click on splitting tool and we go down, and we can actually select this plane of the origin.
And we see that it is kind of a red circle here, and we click okay. We can turn the origin off. We have two bodies now. Body one and body two. So I'm just going to do hide body number one for right now, and we're just going to be working on this. I guess it's the left side of the hood. But we're going to work on body two for the next video.
