Fusion 360 has a very easy-to-use interface for inserting a reference image. This tool is a great guide tool to convert 2D references into 3D.
- [Instructor] In this scenario we are given dimensions for our bottle by our marketing team. This file is in JPG, and in Fusion 360, we can have this imported inside for us to trace its geometry. And, as a personal preference, I usually prefer, under Grid and Snaps, let me move Fusion up so you can see.
Under Grid and Snaps I usually prefer to uncheck Snap to Grid, and Incremental Move. This is for me to have a smooth workflow. So unchecking. Going back to our reference image in order for us to have it inside Fusion we can head up to Insert, and select Attached Canvas. So I select this one. Let's locate the image. Selecting Image, other exercise files, let's select Bottle-Dimensions.
Now we are prompted to select a face, or plane. So let's select our XY plane. Left-click here. Let's head to our Attached Canvas panel. Let's leave this at their default state and hit OK. Let's head to our canvas and twirl this down heading to Bottle-Dimensions. I'm going to right-click and select Calibrate.
Let's head to our front view and zoom in. Now the calibrate simply asks us to pick two points and enter a specific distance. From there Fusion 360 will resize our canvas to the specified value. So I'd like 60.3 to be my reference. I'm going to left-click here, and left-click here, and key in 60.3.
Hit Enter and Fusion 360 recalibrates this image from this point to this point to be 60.3. Let's head back to our Bottle-Dimensions canvas, right-click and select Edit Canvas. And because this is a reference image we prefer this to be displaying through. For the Canvas opacity let's retain this to 50.
Next I'm going to zoom in and I prefer our origin to be midpoint to the base of our bottle. So I'm going to move this arrow up, holding this down, and nudge this a bit, and finally hit OK. Inserting a reference image is quick and easy in Fusion 360.
In the next video we will begin sketching to trace the image.
