In your search engine of choice, if you do a search for a DIY 3D scanner, one of the first results that pops up is a link for all3dp.com /2/best-diy-scanners-you-can-build-or- buy. If you click on this, this will give a good overview of very inexpensive scanners that a lot of times use cell phones or very inexpensive lasers in order to get three D models. Now, the results of these 3D scanners are not the best for reverse engineering, but they are certainly better than trying to model something in the physical world by hand, so I would invite you to look over these scanners, it gives a good overview of the different types of tools available for you, whether direct 3D scanning using lasers or tools like photogrammetry.
