- [Instructor] Now let's go ahead and talk about fiber materials. I'm going to be talking about the four most commonly used fiber materials in the composite industry. I'm also going to score them against each other in a little scale system that I came up with. We'll also talk about briefly some of the applications of where some of these materials are used now. So first up carbon fiber. Now carbon fiber is a very stiff material. And when I say stiff, I mean, resistant to bending. So if you had a bracket coming straight off the wall that resistance that has to bend is it's stiffness. Now carbon fiber also has incredible tensile strength. And I say tensile strength I mean, if you took the strand of carbon fiber and pulled it from one end to the other end and played tug of war that's what we're talking about for tensile strength. Now durability, durability is in relationship to how much the part will bend before it breaks. So…
