- [Kacie] Hi, my name is Kacie Hultgren, and welcome to Design for Additive Manufacturing: FDM. Additive manufacturing, commonly called 3D printing, is a complex discipline to master. Equal parts hardware, software, and design, there are multiple skills required to create printable 3D objects. This course isn't a set of instructions on how to operate a 3D printer, nor is it a primer on 3D modeling. It's a course about the intersection where manufacturing and design meet.
In this course, I'll aim to demystify the discipline of creating 3D printable objects by exploring technical concepts one by one. We'll focus on one type of 3D printing technology, fused deposition modeling, abbreviated FDM. We'll start by exploring basic concepts, like overhangs and wall thickness, and finish with a project that puts these design strategies into action. Let's get started.
