- [Instructor] 3D scanning can be used to reverse engineer existing parts, like any of the parts you see in this engine bay, but can also be used to help guide the development of new products for the purposes of clearance. If you look at this engine bay here, you see that there is a large amount of open space on this left side, where an added air intake could be put. If we go into the scan, this was the result of about, I would say four minutes of actual scanning, so this was not a detailed scan yet you can see a tremendous amount of detail was captured by the scanner. This is the raw point cloud, if you zoom in, you'll see that this turns all into points like this. The point cloud then turns into a 3D model. I switch this to solid, we can see that this is an actual 3D model of the engine bay. Now bringing this model in to fusion 360, we can use this engine bay to tell us where the clearances are for any for any custom…
