- Now that we have an operation to rough out the pocket, we need to go back through with a ball nose end mill and finish it up, to bring out the detail. To do that, we're going to use a 3D finishing operation. And you can select the dropdown on the 3D menu to see all the different options you have. And depending on the type of design or the model you're actually cutting, you may choose different operations. For example, if I were making a long skinny Pinewood Derby car on my CNC, for example, I might use a parallel operation. But for this case, with something a little more circular, we're going to move toward scallop, spiral, radial or morph spiral. And I'm going to go ahead and select the morph spiral, 'cause I think it gives us one of the better finishes. We're going to start there.
