- In addition to the normal information of backers and the amount of money that you see, there's additional information that a project creator gives you to help you understand what this project's about. First, right under the video is the project description. You do not know how many times I have come to a project and not been able to understand exactly what the project is because the description fails to tell me clearly what this is all about. In this case, John has done a great job of identifying exactly what Covalence is all about. It is a Puzzle-Style, Cooperative, Chemistry game for two to four players.
Very clear. I can clearly understand what this project is if I chose to back it. A couple other pieces of information. The location. People like to back local projects, and in this case, John happens to live in St. Louis, Missouri. Kickstarter allows the location to be easily identified, so if you're trying to back a local project, it's easy to find them. You can also search on those as well, making it very easy. The category here is Tabletop Games. It falls under the category of Games, subcategory, Tabletop Games.
Again, John understands his niche market, has identified the category that he wants to be in, and has clearly identified it. Next, I can share this project. Why would I want to share this project? Oftentimes it's not necessarily financial backing that provides the support, but the ability to tell other people about a project. Kickstarter makes it very easy. If you click on the Share this project, up comes the different ways that you can share it, whether it's through Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest, or embedding it in a website and showing it somewhere else. Then the last piece is the creator themselves, in this case, John Coveyou, Genius Games.
We can learn a little bit about him, because oftentimes you back the person and not necessarily the project. John has created four different projects. If we click on those we can see Covalence, a Molecule Building Game which is currently running, Ion, a Compound Building Game, Peptide, a Protein Building Game, and Linkage, a DNA Card Game with Educational Attitude! We've just learned something about John a little bit. It appears that he likes to make card games that have something to do with science. He's also backed 118 projects.
Kickstarter lets us see every single project he's backed. We can see, not surprising, many of them are games. In addition, Kickstarter allows John to put a website that people can find easily. In this case it's got geniusgames.com and people can click on that link and go straight to the website where John is selling additional games that used to run on Kickstarter. The last two pieces of information are necessary because now I want to know a little bit more about John. I can look at his full bio.
John loves to play games, he designs them, he has a master's degree in chemical engineering and a bachelor's degree in biology. No wonder he's making all of these card games about science. He likes Kickstarter and science education. We see his website and then over on the right we find the information pertaining to John. When he last logged in, the number of projects he's created, the number that he's backed, a contact link that allows us to reach out and communicate with him directly, as well as a Facebook link. Now, this Facebook link I've kind of emphasized a couple of times. It's important that people understand there is a person connected to the project.
That makes it personable, and when it becomes personable, it makes it easier for people to back the person and not just the project.
