Learn about creation of a PostgreSQL (Postgres) database on Heroku.
- [Instructor] Now that you've gotten connected to the Heroku servers, it's time to create the database we'll be using for the course. Rather than going through the work of installing and maintaining a local Postgres instance, we'll be using a hosted database at Heroku. Type heroku create to create a new application. This virtual application simply exists as an anchor to attach the Postgres instance to. Enter the next command, as shown on the slide, to create your database. This creates a database in the free tier attached to your application.
For the next step, open an editor of your choice to capture the URL of the database that's been created. Run the command as shown and then copy that URL into a file for use later in the course.
