Undocking the timeline

Often when you're working with animation in Flash, you'll have animations that have a lot of layers and or a lot of frames. You'll need to be able to easily navigate through the timeline, as well as easily modify the art on the stage. One way to manage your art in your timeline effectively is to undock the timeline. We'll talk about how to do that in this movie. If you're following along, I'm working in 03_Undocking_Timeline.fla in the Chapter 05 folder in the Exercise Files folder. The first thing we'll do is enter the timeline of the robot on the stage.

Remember the robot is an instance of mcRobotDancing. So we'll double-click the robot to enter its timeline and then to undock the timeline, click the Options button at the very top right of the timeline. Hover your mouse over the placement area and choose Undock from Document. The timeline is then a floating panel.
