Q: When following the tutorials on a Mac, a problem was encountered in Chapter 4 when trying to load a text file. The file would not load in Flash. The specified file was created in TextEdit as an .RTF file. Why won’t Flash load this document?

A: Rich Text Format (RTF) files have their own formatting, as opposed to a .TXT file, which contains just the basic, unformatted text characters. It is possible that the formatting of the .RTF file created in TextEdit is causing the error in Flash. Since RTFs are the default file type in TextEdit, the file will have to be manually saved as a .TXT file. In TextEdit, select Format > Make Plain Text, then in the Save dialog box, use the .TXT extension in the file name.
