Join Anastasia McCune for an in-depth discussion in this video Introducing symbols, part of Learning Flash Professional.
One core concept that you'll use over and over again in Flash is Symbols.…Symbols are basically reusable visual assets and you'll see them as building…blocks for animation and interaction.…Let's jump in and practice with symbols.…So, our first step is to open a new blank FLA document.…Now, I am going to draw a simple circle shape on the stage and make it a symbol.…I'll select the Oval tool and for this example I am going to have a circle with…a red fill and a black stroke.…Now, I'll draw my circle on the stage, and if you click on your shape and…open the Property Inspector, it tells us that this blob of color on the stage is indeed a shape.…
This is what we're using for our example here but know that you can make almost…anything into a symbol; shapes drawn and Merge or Object drawing modes, bitmap…images or whatever else.…So, notice that the Library remains empty.…We won't actually see anything in the Library until we convert our shape into a symbol.…So, there are multiple ways you can do this.…
