Importing bitmap graphics

Flash can import several different bitmap image file types. This includes, but it's not limited to, the common web image file types like JPEG, GIFF and PNG files. Note that PNG files support full transparency in Flash. Let's take a look at how to import an image into Flash. There are two different ways to import an image. You can import an image directly to the Library by going to the File > Import > Import to Library. I'm going to import the file flower.jpg and click Open.

The file is then in the Library. When I click on the image in the Library, I see the preview in the Library panel. I could then click-and-drag the bitmap from the Library onto the Stage. I'm going to undo that and delete the flower from the Library. We'll look at another method for importing bitmaps into Flash. You can go to File > Import > Import to Stage.
