Join Todd Perkins for an in-depth discussion in this video Distinguishing between black hat and white hat SEO, part of Flash CS4 Professional: Building Search Engine Friendly Sites.
When optimizing a site for search engines, you may be tempted to put a whole bunch of keywords everywhere, maybe hide them with CSS or whatever. In this movie, I want to identify what that is called. It's called Black Hat SEO. It's the opposite of White Hat SEO. Black Hat SEO refers to unethical search engine optimization practices, whereas White Hat SEO is the standard search engine optimization that we'll be talking about throughout this title. Black Hat SEO is bad and can get you banned from search engine results. Now, I don't want to go over details about what techniques are Black Hat SEO and what are not. If you doing something and it seems unethical or you wouldn't share it with one of your competitors because it's getting you really high results, that may be qualified as Black Hat SEO.
If you break rules of search engines outline, then you could get banned from them. So you want to be really familiar with what's acceptable and what's not acceptable in search engine optimization. So you can go to the different sites if you want to and see exactly what Black Hat SEO is and what specific techniques are Black Hat. It involves things like hiding text, so it's not visible to people but only visible to search engines, and other techniques that are somewhat deceptive. So again Black Hat SEO is unethical and can get you banned from search engines.
It's dangerous. Go to sites that explain more details and give examples to find out more information.
