Masking objects
Fireworks has a lot of different ways that you can make Masks. Masks allow you to temporarily hide objects with shapes or vectors. And in a vector mask, a vector object-like circle or square or any other shape cookie-cutters another object or photo. So, we're going to use a circle right now to create a simple vector mask. So I've chosen the Ellipse tool, and I'm going to drag a circle. By holding down the Shift key, I constrain the shape so that it's perfect circle. Once I got that shape, I can position it where I want to cut the object. I'm going to go to the Edit menu, select Cut, click on my object that I want to cookie-cutter and then go back to Edit, select Paste as Mask. So you can see that my object is now in the shape of this circle and the rest of the background is now transparent. As soon as you create a vector shape like this or a vector mask like this, you can see that there are a few options in the Properties palette. So one of them is to either mask with the path outline…
