- Week after week in these tips, my brother and I have talked about using financial information provided by companies. Well, an obvious question is how can I get my hands on this top-secret information? First, the financial information for publicly traded companies is not top secret. You just have to know where to look. And today I'm going to share with you where to look. The Securities and Exchange Commission, the SEC, has a website devoted to warehousing all the required filings made by publicly traded companies. This website is called EDGAR, which stands for Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval. All right, to get to the EDGAR website, you simply go to www.sec.gov and hover over the Filings tab at the top of the page. Then, as you go down, you click on Company Filings Search. This is kind of what it says. You can search for documents filed with the SEC by company. Now, step one is to identify a company of interest. You don't necessarily need to know the official name…
