- Gratitude may be the reason for the season, but for many of us stretched thin by travel, cooking, and holiday drama, actual feelings of gratitude may be in short supply. But it turns out that we really need a special holiday to remind us to be grateful and give back. According to psychologist Robert Emmons gratitude strengthens our relationships, boosts our happiness levels, and even improves our health. So put down the turkey baster for just a minute. Here are five simple ways to give back and feel good. First, try a game that I like to call find the silver lining. When you're feeling peeved about something, challenge yourself to identify something in that situation that's good. If you're stuck in traffic, for example, appreciate that you have time to listen to an audio book or do some deep breathing. It doesn't make the annoying thing go away, of course, but it does help you avoid falling into that negativity trap where it seems like everything is going wrong. Next, make it as…
