- [Voiceover] In the previous chapter we examined many different types of documentaries each with different story-telling techniques. And certainly many of these approaches reflected the cultural, political, philosophical and technological characteristics of the day and that certainly holds true for modern documentaries as well. In recent years documentaries have really surged in popularity. And while there are many reasons certainly a big reason is related to even further technological advances. When we left off in the 1960's and 70's we talked about how film cameras and sync-sound recording equipment became more portable, quieter and easier to maneuver to be able to capture those intimate moments in a new type of film-making. Well, as you can imagine things just kept getting more portable and more convenient. Then as light-weight video cameras replaced film cameras first, analog tape-based video then digital tape-based video and then finally in more recent years digital file-based…
