The modern documentary: Classic expository techniques

- [Voiceover] So we just talked a bit about the rise of the modern documentary over the last 30 years or so. It's hard to lump modern docs together though, because over the last 30 years, one style has not defined the genre. Rather, modern docs take on many different forms, some of which we've already talked about. So over the next two movies, we're going to briefly recount these different types of documentaries, and will now be bringing in pertinent examples of modern docs to drive home our points. In this movie we're going to focus on expository docs. Remember what we learned about these, they're what you think of as the classic documentary, they're traditionally educational in nature, lots of historical, biographical, nature and science films, or even propaganda. They're usually presented as factual or objective, as well as didactic in that it tends to draw it's own conclusions about the subject matter.
