Placeholders are a type of generator that allows you to enter information about a shot or graphic you may be waiting for from another department. They can also be used to create storyboards for a project. Nick Harauz demonstrates a few different ways that we can add and work with placeholders in your Apple Final Cut Pro X timeline.
- [Instructor] So this movie is all about placeholders,…and what we're going to do is add one to our timeline.…So let me paint you a scenario.…The scenario is that you're working on a project,…and you're waiting for an asset.…This asset for our example happens to be four seconds long,…and we know some information about it.…We know that it's a shot of the aerialist,…very similar to some of the shots that you see here,…and it's just being treated with some motion graphics.…So it involves one person on a sunny day.…And it's going to be the third clip in our timeline,…again, four seconds long.…So in your Chapter 1.9 project,…which is going to be in your Chapter 1 folder…under the Projects, Events.…
I'm just going to move my playhead…in between the second and third clip in the timeline.…And one way that we can add a placeholder…is to go to the Edit menu,…and you'll see that there's an option…to insert a generator placeholder.…And the placeholder is then applied to the project.…So the difference between this and a gap,…
