What you should know

- [Instructor] In this movie, we're going to cover cover a few things that you should know before watching this Final Cut Pro X essential training series. And one thing is, if you head to Apple's Final Cut Pro X page, you can download a free version of Final Cut, and follow along with this training. Once you head to the Final Cut page, go to the Free Trial button. Once you do, Apple will ask you for some simple information, to which you can download a free trial. You're going to want to pay attention to the tech specs that are recommended, and make sure that your Mac meets the minimum system requirements, in order to have an optimized experience. This will be laid out in more detail, in the tech specs area, of the Final Cut Pro X page. You can see here, the minimum system requirements, as well as some of the features of the application. Minimum system requirements are just minimum. So if you're working with 8K video, you may want to take a look and get a recommendation for your system settings. You should note that for certain processes, eight gigabytes is recommended such as for 4K editing, 3-D titles, and 360 degree video. Along with this, if you're interested in the other Pro applications that we do cover briefly in this course, both Motion and Compressor's minimum system requirements will be listed here as well. The next thing that you want to pay attention to, is what version of the OS you are running, you can find this out by heading to the Apple menu, and going to About This Mac, and noting that we're on Mac OS, Catalina 10.15.6 at the time of this recording, this is important, because if you're not up to date, you won't have access to Final Cut Pro's latest release, in many cases, it only will allow that to be available for you on the App Store, unless your OS is up to date. With this up to date, you'll get access to new features such as all of the stuff in the current version that is shipping. Now, if you've purchased, or are interested in purchasing Final Cut Pro, look no further than the App Store. You can simply head to your User Information down at the bottom-left hand corner, and this will reveal the applications that you've bought from the store. You can see here at the bottom, my versions of Compressor, Motion, and Final Cut need to be downloaded, In fact, if you click on the word Final Cut, it will bring you to another page, or you can preview and see what Final Cut is, see some of the ratings and reviews, as well as additional information about Final Cut. When you're ready, you can click the download button, and then this is going to lead you through installation, to place Final Cut Pro X in your applications folder. Once you launched Final Cut Pro X, for the first time, I recommend heading to the Final Cut Pro Menu, and downloading some additional content that's available. This includes a ton of sound effects that could be very useful to your production at hand. Now, if you have access to a premium membership on LinkedIn Learning, you'll be able to download some exercise files, simply head to the Overview tab of the course page, and you'll see a exercise files area. By clicking on See All, this will lead to your ability to download the Essential Trainings zip folder, which will go to the Downloads Folder on your Mac OS system. If you experience any problem with the download, I do recommend trying to close and open your browser, in order to successfully download these files. LinkedIn Learning also has some troubleshooting, if it comes for any reason that your download is corrupt. Once you receive your training files, I recommend storing it in a safe place, such as your desktop documents folder or an external drive of your choice. You can then double-click this folder to see the exercise files' contents, and the sub folders of the assets that are going to be used in certain chapters, as well as the Final Cut Pro X Library, which has organized exercises for you. And you'll be prompted to open these, as we go through the course. For any reason that you double-click a library, and you receive a message that it is in the Cloud, now this may have to do with the fact you've stored your exercise files on your desktop, and documents folder, and you've set your Mac OS computer to save those two files to the Cloud. If I head over to my Apple System Preferences, you want to go into your iCloud Settings, and you can do that by clicking on your Apple ID, and under your Apple ID, here's your iCloud settings. If I take a look at my iCloud Drive's options, if this desktop and documents folder is set, this is going to store all of that data in the Cloud, and not on your actual computer's drive. So just something to keep in mind if you experience any problems in opening that library. Last but not least, if you venture ahead, for any reason in any of the exercise files, you may notice a sea of red for the video clips that are inside the library. There is a re-linking exercise movies file, that you want to totally check out, which takes you through step-by-step, how to reconnect to the assets folder that's been supplied to you. And I recommend watching it step-by-step in order to achieve a perfect re-link. And those are just a few of the things that you should know about before joining me on this journey of the Final Cut Pro X essentials training course.
