- [Jeff] Welcome to Final Cut Pro X Weekly. Nick's not here, this is Jeff. I'm going to talk to you this week about understanding disk speed and particularly, if your drives or connections are too slow. So the key concepts we're going to cover are where drive speed really does and doesn't matter, some free tools to help measure your speed, and some deep speed tests and analysis. Now, drive speed matters the most when it comes to copying material. Particularly, as a DIT, a digital imaging technician on set, whether you're doing anything inside of your Final Cut library, that's building caches or wave forms, you want that to be on fast storage, and then any other sort of file transfer, backing up, et cetera. Notice, I didn't mention here when your footage really needs it, because most of the drives really will exceed what our footage do and we're going to examine that.
