- [Jeff] Welcome to Final Cut Pro X Weekly. This is Jeff, no Nick this week. I want to talk to you about ProRes RAW, this new type of RAW format that Apple's pioneering. ProRes RAW happens to be a 12 bit RAW format developed by Apple and is being used by several third-party groups. We're going to talk about the essentials of RAW, the benefit specifically to Final Cut X, and we're going to take a look at where it's available. To start with, I just need to cover a little bit about this 8 bit and 10 bit and 12 bit stuff, because it has some confusion that goes with it. 8 bit video is mostly how computers work. And if you take a look here at a red green blue chart, at the top and bottom of it, you can visualize that the value for white happens to be 255, 255, 255, and black happens to be 0, 0, 0. And the common question I ask people is, what's the value for gray? And that happens to be 127 across all three values. Now your dynamic range is the set of darkest to lightest values, and as you…
