Music as a unifier and connector

- In the previous movie we discussed many of the things that music can do in terms of establishing emotion, rhythm, and providing various types of information. All of that is so important. Another wonderful characteristic is its ability to unify and connect. There are many ways this can be done, and I wanna talk about a few here in this movie. First, probably the most obvious way this happens is when music connects different shots together, serving as the foundation for separate images to rest upon, often through montage. A montage is a sequence of separate images that when put together, are greater than the sum of the parts. They most often show a passage of time or a combination, or collision of ideas. Almost always, music lies at the foundation of a montage, not only to lend the right emotional undercurrent, but also to unify the disparate images, or scenes, into one thing, making it mean more of the viewer.
