- [Voiceover] We've already seen so many different types of documentaries emerging from the beginning days of motion picture cinema all the way to the late 1920s. I think it's really impressive that so many forms of expression in non-fiction cinema were born before the advent of sync sound. But needless to say there are many ways that information and emotion can be conveyed just through the juxtaposition of images, text, and music. Once sync sound entered the picture, dialogue and narration entered the filmic arsenal in major ways though. One of the main types of documentary films that began well before sync sound cinema but that became even more popular once sync sound came onto the scene was the newsreel. We already talked a bit about the Kino-Pravda newsreels in the previous movie, which were silent films based on fragments of everyday events that portrayed the human existence.
