Transitions are one of those things that every editor uses, and a common phrase used among editors is, “If you can’t solve it, dissolve it.” How do you add a dissolve to an edit point between two connected clips? In this video, walk through how to dissolve between connected clips in Final Cut Pro X.
- [Instructor] There's that adage: if you can't solve it,…dissolve it.…Let's take a look at how FinalCut handles dissolves,…especially dissolved with connected clips.…For dissolves, I'm going to slip into my Tahoe project here,…select the Tahoe montage, and Command+d duplicate it.…I'm going to rename this Tahoe Dissolves.…I'm going to open that up.…We've got a bunch of clips in here.…Dissolve is very straightforward.…Actually, think of it as a transition…because all you need to do is click…and hit a command-t for the transition.…
I'm going to zoom in on it so we can see it.…If you grab the edges of it,…you can make it shorter or longer, up until handle-length.…Notice that it's turning red on the left hand side.…That's showing me the maximum amount it'll go.…This is set, the default length is set by the preferences.…And under editing here, transition durations are one second.…Me, personally, they're 0.5 of a second.…We can select our transition.…We can open up inspector command for it.…We can see what kind of cross-dissolve, okay?…
