Join Bill Dill for an in-depth discussion in this video The right lighting for this story, part of Learning Cinematography: 2 Working on Set.
- We've done our blocking.…I've given the first AD a time estimate…and I want to stay within that time estimate.…But, if I feel it's going to go a little longer,…I want to keep track of the work that we're doing here…to make sure that the first AD is notified…if I think it's going to go long,…or if I think it's going to go short.…The first AD has, needs lead time,…in order to keep things moving on the set.…And there are some things that take some advanced notice.…So whatever I think is going to be happening,…I keep track of the estimate I've given…and see where I am relative to that.…So things are going to get a little moody now…because we'll actually start lighting the set.…
So we can take the house lights down.…Okay, so we've already made some decisions…about color, about how hard or soft the light should be,…and the direction of the key.…We want to make sure that the amount of light is consistent…as we move from shot to shot so our depth of field…doesn't change, and so the look stays consistent throughout.…
