- So, what's a DIT?…Well, a DIT stands for digital imaging technician.…And they are the guys and gals that provide…a most critical service in production.…They are the ones that assure that the work flow is reliable…and that the postproduction crew gets what they need.…This is easy to say,…but it is still not clear exactly what the DIT does.…The DIT backs up the media.…It would be better if they organized the footage…in appropriate folders.…Needless to say that the media should be backed up…to different physical drives, at least two.…
But I recommend three.…And that the original card should not be reused…until the integrity of the copied clips is confirmed.…In addition to that, the DIT does on-set color correction.…This is because a lot of the currently used footage…looks flat as shot.…This on-set color correction serves two purposes.…The director and/or director of photography (or DP)…can see the graded footage…and then can determine very quickly…if changes need to be made to the lighting setup.…
But also, this gives the colorist a good idea…
