– On early video cameras, we used to think of the camera and lens as a single unit. Having separate sensors for red, green, and blue manufactures had to build those cameras as if the lens and camera were one. That's no longer the case today. With the single sensor digital cameras we have today, the lens can be swapped like any other accessory you attach to the camera. As a result, the make, model, and type of lens is an important variable in the digital cinematographer's art. Before you select a particular manufacturer's lenses, make sure you know what the look of the movie is because the look of a lens can be quite different from one manufacturer to the next. You might even find differences in the look created by different models of lenses from the same manufacturers that one, may work better for your movie than another.
