Lighting dull and matte objects

- Sometimes a product might lack some certain flair when placed in front of the camera. Lighting matte and dull objects might seem challenging, but it doesn't have to be. Here's a simple setup that uses a combination of soft and hard lights to transform a plain pair of shoes into a cool pair of kicks. The three parts of our setup are the product itself, the foreground, what it's placed on, and the background. We didn't need much room to set this up, and I've even built up into the setup a few hardware store soft lights alongside of our studio lights. In this basic, two panel lighting setup, you can work with many different projects by changing the intensity of each side to control the overall contrast. I built a few diffusion panels out of some window screen frames, skinned them up with some frosted shower curtain, it looked pretty nice.
