- At this point we should talk a bit about how LEDs render color. In the world of video production, accuracy in color is essential. People's skin tones need to look right. It's the first thing a viewer will notice if it's off. Your clients are gonna want the colors of their branding or products to be faithfully rendered, so having lights that do the job are important. There are standards of measurement that can give you an idea of how well an LED fixture renders color. The most popular scale is called the CRI, or Color Rendering Index. You will see a value from this scale in the spec sheets for most any LED brand you look at. The scale is simple. It goes from zero to 100, with a scale of 90 or better considered to be optimum. You definitely want to pay attention to this number when shopping around because it's related to the cost and quality of the LED you are considering.
