Developing primary and secondary characters
- When you develop your project infrastructure, one of the first things you're going to need to think about is characters. And of course, you're going to want to have some primary characters. The question is, how many? Well, I tend to work in very short, short-form, one to three minutes so, I really don't have the latitude of using more than one, or maybe two, main characters. And if you're working in a slightly longer short-form, maybe three to five, or six minutes, then you can maybe throw in a few more characters, some might be supporting characters. If you work in very long non-fiction, 30 minutes, 60 minutes, then you can start having five, six or more characters. So, think about how many people the audience can really connect with and build empathy with, in the amount of time that you have for your script. So for example, we might have a couple here, Kanesha and Alan, they're from Chicago. And maybe together, they're going to tell the story. So that's a pretty typical situation…
