What are scripts and script steps?
- [Instructor] One of the most powerful features in Filemaker is the ability for users to automate different functions by creating scripts. Scripts can serve many purposes from simple navigation tasks to complex reporting and workflow needs. Scripts can be called via buttons on layouts as well as via script triggers, which will activate a script when certain actions happen, like for example entering a layout or navigating between records. First of all, what is a script? A script is a sequence of stored instructions that will allow developers to automate repetitive tasks or control how users interact with the system. Really almost anything you can do manually through the keyboard or mouse or through menu commands can be scripted. And really scripting is best learned through practical application. For example, if you know that there's some things that you do every day, you might want to automate them through a script. Some examples might be, navigating from one layout to another…
