Understanding how FileMaker displays formatting

In order to allow users to build more normalized and performance solutions, FileMaker 13 now exposes access to the custom object style architecture that was originally built into FileMaker 12. Fundamentally this will allow users to locally style an object either to their liking and then redefine the object appearance of all objects of that type or define a new custom style that can then be applied to specific objects of that type. But before continuing on to describe how the user achieves this, I think it's important to take a moment to review the style architecture that was originally built in to FileMaker Pro 12, still utilized in 13, so that you can better understand how this will implement this feature. There are several different layers that are applying different formatting. And if you have an understanding of which layers have priority over others, you can make some design decisions when you're under the hood in your FileMaker solution.
