This video reviews the new native JSON functions in FileMaker 16 which allow for parsing and manipulating of JSON data within your FileMaker custom apps.
- [Instructor] REST APIs are very common…and FileMaker users need ways to communicate…with these third-party data sources.…FileMaker custom apps are increasingly becoming part…of an ecosystem where all the information is distributed…and not necessarily all in the same place.…With the introduction of support for RESTful API…in FileMaker 16 we can now integrate JSON data…directly into our FileMaker custom apps.…So of course that means that we need a way…of parsing this JSON data…in order to complete the platform strategy.…Now while FileMaker's been able to parse…JSON data for some time,…it's typically involved extra development…or maybe the use of a plugin.…
So now we actually have some predefined functions…within FileMaker to allow us to be able to work…with JSON data directly within our FileMaker custom apps.…But first, what is JSON?…Well, first of all you might hear it referred to as Jason.…For the remainder of this course…I'm going to be referring to it as JSON,…it's really a preference.…JSON stands for JavaScript Object Notation…
