- [Instructor] If you want to connect your FileMaker database to a non-FileMaker data source through ODBC, there's going to be two things that are going to facilitate that connection, the first of which is that you're going to need to have drivers. It's very much like when you connect your laptop to your printer, since your laptop doesn't speak Canon or HP or whatever, you have to install the driver for your printer on your machine so that the two can talk to each other. It is the exact same thing here. For example, in the next video, I'm going to connect my FileMaker database to a Postgres database server. They do not speak the same language, so my FileMaker database needs to have access to a driver for Postgres. Same thing here, so you got to get your drivers, and then also you need to set up with something that's called a data source name.
