Scheduling backups
- [Instructor] We rely on database systems to store and retrieve our data with absolute reliability, even when they're used all day, every day. And in order to guarantee the safety and integrity of this data, especially when it's critical to our businesses or organization, it must be protected by a thorough scheme of backups. Because database files can be large, heavily used, and kept open for long periods of time, they often present the greatest challenges for backup systems. Now, if a database file's simply backed up while it's open, it's likely that there will be uncommitted database actions in memory that have not been written to the disk, so the file could also change during the time it was required to back up. At the very least, a backend copy is likely to be inconsistent. And at worst, it might be damaged, sometimes beyond repair. And this is specifically true when it comes to FileMaker. I'm not trying to fearmonger…
