- FileMaker provides ways that we can search data…that's being stored in the database,…and we do so by entering Find mode,…clicking into a field that we want to search,…and entering some criteria.…Then we get what's called a "found set" in return.…So that's a simple search.…But let's say in this particular case where…I just went in and I searched for the State field,…let's say I want to get a found set…that combines the state of California…and the state of Washington.…If I go into the State field in Find mode…and I enter in California and Washington,…FileMaker's just going to look for records…that actually have a CA and a WA in them.…
So how can we combine a found set of records?…Well the key is this button up here called New Request.…So let's first initiate the California search.…Now we see we've got 23 records that match that search.…So we're asking a question of our database,…"How many customers do we have in California?"…and the answer is 23.…But we also want to know how many we have…in Washington and combine that total together.…
