- [Voiceover] Similar to other databases, FileMaker Pro databases are presented to users as a collection of tables, each containing a number of fields. If you've worked with other database environments in the past, you maybe accustomed to the term columns instead of fields, either term is meaningful and acceptable, but in FileMaker Pro we call these fields. We call that term fields. You'll see that used through out the rest of this course as well. A FileMaker Pro database can contain a single file or be comprised of multiple files all linked through file references, but in either case, a single physical file can hold an effectively limitless number of tables. There really is no limit to how many tables you can define in a single file. That'll just be determined by your business rules. The same is true about the number of fields that can be defined within a table. Those are nearly limitless, although we would caution you that there's a great deal of overhead with having too many fields…
