Claris Connect concepts

- [Instructor] Claris Connect is built on the concept of flows. We're looking at a flow here on screen. These are used to automate everyday business tasks and processes. For example, you may want to create a flow, like the one I've done here, that adds a user's email to a Mailchimp subscriber list whenever a new customer is added on Shopify. Flows are automations that use two or more components. A component can either be a Claris Connect utility like you see in this top section or a connector to a third party app like you see here listed below. Claris Connect utilities are predefined components that perform a variety of data in file operations. For example, this image utility returns information about an image file. You can also connect to a large number of third-party connectors. You'll find a complete directory of all the third-party apps available on Claris Connect online at claris.com/connect/apps. I strongly recommend starting your process of creating flows by first reviewing all the different third-party apps that you have available to you. You'll notice some of these apps are probably apps that you're already using. I would use those first as you experiment with creating flows. When you work with Claris Connect, you'll want to follow these general steps. First determine the workflow that you want to automate including the apps to connect to and the steps that you'll want to perform. I suggest writing down a task statement. For example, you might say when a user downloads a file from a client folder on box.com, send a notification to the client channel on Slack. Next you'll want to plan the project and flow based on the task statement. So in this example, you might say, decide to create a box.com project, because the flow will start with box.com. I will then want to identify the trigger in action or actions in the flow. In this example, downloading a file from box.com is the trigger, and creating the Slack notification is the action. Next you'll identify any prerequisite tasks for the flow. These are steps that are external to Claris Connect. For example, you'll need user accounts for each app that you want to connect to. In this specific case, you'll need a box.com account and a Slack account. In box.com, you must create a folder, and in Slack, you'll then need to create a channel. Once those accounts are created, you'll then create a project in Claris Connect. A project contains one or more flows, and flows contain one or more actions. After you've created your flow, you can then enable the flow and then test the flow and then you'll be ready to put it into production. Claris Connect is built on the concept of flows. These are used to automate everyday business tasks and understanding the steps required to create flows will help you quickly automate your processes.
