- If you decide you want to provide your own captions, there's a few ways to go about this. Ultimately you're going to need a transcript. The transcript takes the words that are being spoken and assigns a timestamp to it. Some folks will use an actual script if the video was produced from a written script, and this increases the accuracy. But you don't have to do this, there are many different approaches. You can use software to generate transcripts. There are a lot options for transcription. Generally you can control the playback of the video, start to type, and it offers auto-correction. There's also usually shortcuts for commonly spoken words to speed things up. And many of them can actually read the time code right from the file or the playback time. Additionally, there are options for speech to text that will analyze the file and create. Now you saw earlier that Facebook can do this, but so could YouTube.
